One thing that is most wonderful about book clubs is the excitement of starting a new book. If you are looking to find book club cooks than research thoroughly. You may find that you can rent them from the local library, but I wouldn't plan on it. Books typically are donated to public libraries as opposed to bought new, so it takes a while for brand new books to be available. Do not let this discourage you. Many online resources are available and cater to this very need. In Orange County many fancy ladies have lunch and read in their past time. Naturally other women wanting to be oc social elite will join these groups whether they read or not. Any sort of access to education is great brain food and should not be shy ed away from. Oprah probably had a lot to book clubs becoming popular in the early 90's and into the present day. If you are a starving writer it seems like getting on Oprah's favorite book list would be the place to be. Not necessary so. Statics show that the benefits of human to human dialogue and information sharing can strengthen your health. Many doctors would encourage you to read and write at all times and also share it with people. The brain is a muscle and will grow when worked. Reading a writing become your tools to work this muscle. Probably one of the best compliments you can receive is to be called a book worm. Not many consider the fact that being in a book group is actually a great way to improve your writing skills as well. A fun thing to do would be to start a story after you finish reading the book as a group. Almost as if you are starting an extension on the book or perhaps a sequel. The imagination can rerun wild at this point so long as everyone in the group is getting to participate. One way to open your mind and think of other ways to switch up your book club is to think of new locations to meet at. If you were to get a chance to read out loud to each other, writing about it would be a great next step. Southern California provides all kinds of beautiful locations to explore and deepen your creative passions. The hills over looking the beach front, miles of ocean water to look at, plenty of sun to meet under. The obvious downside being that you could damage your reading materials. If you buy used books it is an easy way to get around this problem. Having a friend to share the cost of book club books with is ideal especially buying in this economy.
